The Verdi's opera-"Otello" which is compared and discussed with the original one from the point of Social History, Psychology, Aesthetics and Comparative Culture aims at exploring the art ^characteristics of "Otello" and looking into the overall essence deeply.The paper is composed of three main parts. "Part of Drama" focuses on analyzing contents and artistic features of Shakespere's drama "Othello"; "Part of Opera" aims at illuminating contents and artistic features of Verdi's opera-"Otello"; "Part of Comparision"is the key part of the essay. The author tries to explore differences and causes by comparing Verdi's opera with the original on the point of artistic features and contents.In author's opinion, to other literature dramas, the opera has an incomparative advantage of music-drama. It greatly differs from the original in the characters portraying, drama structure, conflict and reality. Meanwhile it forms distinctive aesthetics style and artistic contents which presents not Shakespere's solemn and paean tragedy but elegiac and mournful tragedy.The opera illustrates wider and more permanent theme than the original. It reflects old Verdi's thoughts and other Italians' sorrowful ideas to the society in the end of 19th century. The differences result in the factors of literature types, society and Verdi himself.In a word, on the base of basic original theme and structure frame, the opera is devised creatively and exaggerates the artistic features and contents, showing Verdi's talents and life experiences.
