Chaocuo is an excellence politician and reformer during Western Han Dynasty. Then the society took on a stable and peace look. Chaocuo saw the undercurrent and the whirlpool under the calm surface of Han Dynasty. And he recognized that the serious crisis still existed in the relative steady social life. Chaocuo put forward a series of resolvent with regard to these crises. So he was wise. In spite of the princes' hate, other ministers' jealousy and his father's misunderstanding, he began to cut the princes' feud. Therefore he was brave. In order to main the union, he didn't hesitate to sacrifice his life. He was loyal. However, he was put to death by Emperor Jing. So he was tragic.The thesis includes preface, ending, and the main body of three chapters.The preface is concerned with other scholars' study on Chaocuo.The first chapter describe all Chaocuo' life and the background of his age.The second one is to study Chaocuo's points of view: migrate the people to the border, cherish the millet and cut the princes' feud.The third one is to research Chaocuo's thought and character. He was influenced by both Confucianism and Legalists' thought. In fact he was wise and selfless. .The last one is about the evaluation on Chaocuo. The focus is his not dying in his bed.The ending is about my recognition and understanding on Chaocuo.
