Wang Chuanshan was one of the three greatest scholars during the last period of Ming Dynasty and the early period of Qing Dynasty.Though he was not a professional poet,he composed plenty of Ci poem.His Ci were stirred by the perdition of his homeland and nation,so his Ci possess a strong virile style.Chuanshan's Ci have distinctive features of his era and its own style.The critics of Ci often comment that Chuanshan's Ci descend from the spirit of Li Sao.Focusing on this spirit,this paper expounds the spiritual origin and intension,artistic character and the process of acceptance of Chuanshan's Ci.In the end,it tries to re-evaluate the literature value of Chuanshan's Ci.The first part discusses the spiritual origin descending from Li Sao of Chuanshan's Ci.lt is divided into three sections.The first section introduces Chuanshan's personal experience and life-story,which were the initial stimulation of the spirit.Chuanshan was deeply influenced by the traditional ideas towards loyalty to the country,so he was suffering a lot from the perdition of Ming Dynasty.The anguished emotion became the realistic stimulation of the origin.The second section discusses Chuanshan's regional spiritual development.Chuanshan's hometown,Hunan Province,was Qu Yuan's hometown,too. The spirit of Qu Yuan, who was one of the greatest patriotic Chinise poets,was the leading spirit in Hunan Province.Chuanshan admired Qu Yuan very much,so the loyal spirit of Qu Yuan became the cultural nutriment of Chuanshan's Ci.The third section analyses Chuanshan's national consciousnesses a prominent enlightened thinker,Chuanshan had strong national consciousness to the frustration that the Han nationality had been manipulated by the Man nationality.The second part discusses the spiritual intension of Chuanshan's Ci.The first section expounds Chuanshan's loyalty to his homeland and nation;The second section expresses Chuanshan's grif cherishing the memory of his homeland and Emperor;The third section discusses Chuanshan's heroic spirit that he wanted to develop his motherland and restore Ming Dynasty as an old adherent of the past dynasty;The fourth section expresses Chuanshan's resentment towards the traitors;The fifth section reflects Chuanshan's life when he secluded himself from society to rescue culture from destruction.This part of Ci reflectsanother aspect of the spirit descending from Li Sao.The third part discusses the artistic character of Chuanshan's Ci.The first section sorts out Chuanshan's attitude towards Ci.The second section analyses the two artistic techniques of Chuanshan's Ci:analogy and literary quotation, which make his Ci possess profound significance.The third section discusses the leading style of Chuanshan's Ci.Chuanshan's Ci possess sereval kinds of styles,but the leading style is virile,solemn and strring.The fourth part expounds the acceptance and evaluation of Chuanshan's Ci.Generally,the process of the acceptance of his Ci is divided into three portions in this paper.Based on the acceptance,it re-evaluates the literature value of Chuanshan's Ci.To some extent,Chuanshan's Ci made up for the absence of elegant Ci of Ming Dynasty.In brief,focusing on the spirit descending from Li Sao of Chuanshan's Ci,this paper studies the spiritual origin,Chuanshan's attitude towards Ci,the artistic character,the acceptance and evaluation of Chuanshan's Ci.The ultimate aim is to further the relative superficial studies about Wang Chuanshan,tap the emotions in the depth of Chuanshan's mind and the distinctive aesthetic experience,and search for the new shinning points in the studies of Ci of Ming Dynasty.
