Its political participation has contributed a lot to the political democratization in Taiwan, meanwhile, also resulted inevil outputs--the idea of Taiwan-independence and the proposal ofTaiwanese Self-Determination.This thesis paper looks into various important factors of the Presbyterian Church's political participation: its backgrounds, reasons, arguments, process, role orientation and social & political impacts, with multi-discipline and inter-discipline methods, including subjects like religion study, history, politics, and sociology.Due to the narrow indigenization including its theology, pilgrims, polity and organization, which took place during Taiwan's unlucky historic encounters, the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan resulted in its special democratic appeals and Taiwan-independence proposal. The Church's political participation has been against the goverance of the KMT authority since 1970s.During the process of its political participation, the Church developed its wrong idea of Taiwan-independence and practized it in the name of religious group.
