| At the end of 1949, the United States has founded a non-official radio station, that is Radio Free Europe, which mainly broadcast to East Europe .It's purpose is to make troubles in east European countries and RFE's role in the Hungarian uprisings has shown us an example. RFE had added fuel to flames in this event and was thus blamed for it, which has forced the station to make reconsiderations and adjustments. It's important to discuss this problem. First, it can clarify the controversial problem concerned with the relations of RFE and the Hungarian uprisings. Second, it can deepen our knowledge about the complexity of the Hungarian uprisings and USA's foreign policies towards East Europe, it can also improve our Cold War history study. Third, it will make us put much more emphasis on mass media, esp. when we are in an information period. This essay is made up of eight parts. The first part introduces the importance of this topic and the general study (abroad and inside of China) of it and the composition of this paper. The second part deals with the establishment of RFE and its broadcasts in early 1950's.The third part discusses RFE's broadcasts before the Hungarian Uprisings. RFE's report of political events in Poland had greatly encouraged the Hungarian people. The fourth part studies RFE's broadcasting during this event. RFE had bitterly attacked Nagy and its government, and urged the rebellers to fight hard, which added fuel to flames. The fifth part describes for us the international world's opinion on this problem. RFE's bad role in the Hungary Uprisings can't be denied. The sixth part analyzes the reason why the United states had made so little intervention on RFE. USA did not want to discourage the rebellers. The seventh part introduces RFE's change after the Hungarian Uprisings. The station had dismissed several employees and had to improve the skill of broadcasting. From then on, USA decided that RFE should make its broadcast coincident with American foreign policy towards East Europe. The eighth part is the conclusion. |
