Hungarian Gypsy Style In The Creation Of Western Composers In The 19th Century

As the one of the exotic elements primarily impact on Western music, Gypsy style in the early18th century caused widespread concern in Western musicians. After years of this deposition, Gypsy style represented by the Gypsy formed several major centers in Europe, especially Hungary and its neighboring countries and regions affected by the German and Austrian music system. This kind of Hungarian gypsy style first appeared in Haydn’s music, after Mozart, Beethoven, Weber,Schubert and other musicians, in the hands of Liszt and Brahms became mature, and then gradually declined until extinction. As a Hungarian musician, Franz Liszt early attempted to achieve the ambions of creating their own national music.His representative works are19"Hungarian Rhapsodies"(S.244) and "Hungarian Folk Themes Fantasia"(S.123). And Brahms as a German musician,with a music amateur attitude reflected the understanding and comprehensive grasp of spiritual content of this exotic style,promotedthe popularity of this style in popular way. His works are21"Hungarian dances" and "second movement"in "Clarinet Quintet in b minor"(op.115).This paper aims to reflect the creation of the Hungarian gypsy style of19th western musicnas through three chapters,for example Liszt and Brahms and so on. The first chapter summarizes the influence and representative works of gypsy style from18th to20th century, then further narrows to Hungary gypsy style, analyzes from three aspects:music source, evolution and music features. The second chapter focuses on analyzing of Liszt and Brahms works. After combing their respective background and creative situation associated with this style, through music features mentioned before, from the instrumental style,rhythms,melodygestures and harmony to analyze representative works.The third chapter extends the discussions with Hungarian Gypsy style: indentity. Firstly we start to discuss three destination:Hungarian Music,Gypsy Music and Style Hongrois; Then we continue to figure outthe attitude of Western musicians. Finally, we summarize the relation between Hungarian music and Hungarian gypsy music.
