The researches about the correlation between language learning strategies and language learning both in China and abroad show that there are close relations between language learning strategies and language communicative competence .The using of language learning strategies effect the speed and level of language communicative competence acquisition, so attaching importance to the research of their relations has both theoretical and realistic significance to the improvement of foreign language teaching theory and leading the way for students to improve their study methods.Based on the previous researches, the study first investigated the general situation about the using of learning strategies of college students in English major and their communicative competence in spoken English by the methods of questionnaire and spoken English test, and then on the basis of which, further studied the correlation between language learning strategies and language communicative competence. The results are as follows:(l) The general situation about the using of learning strategies of college students in English major is optimistic. Most of them(99.21%) use various learning strategies in their English studies to some degrees. As for the four learning strategies, what they most prefer to use is the formal practicing strategy, the left is respectively the functional practicing strategy, communicative strategy and mother language strategy;(2) There are significant gender differences on the using frequencies of learning strategies. The study indicated that the scores of women college students on the using frequencies of learning strategies are significantly higher than men students; (3) There are significant differences among the factors composing communicative competence of college students in English major. Among the factors, the scores of pronunciation and grammar are the highest, nextare the scores of content and appropriate speaking, the score of fluency is the lowest; (4) The communicative competence of college students in English major is significantly different on gender. The general level of communicative competence of women college students is higher than that of men students; (5) There are significant positive correlations between formal practicing strategy and the factors composing communicative competence in spoken English as well as the general score. The result of analysis of variation indicated that formal practicing strategy influences pronunciation and grammar more significantly than it influences content, fluency and appropriate speaking; As for the general score, the difference between 'the not use of formal practicing strategy' and 'the use of it' is more significant than the difference between 'the use of it' and ' the often use of it'; (6) Functional practicing strategy is positively correlated with the factors composing communicative competence in spoken English as well as its general score. The result of analysis of variation indicated that functional practicing strategy influences content, fluency and appropriate speaking more significantly than it influences pronunciation and grammar: As for the general score, the difference between 'the not use of functional practicing strategy' and 'the use of it' is more significant than the difference between 'the use of it" and ' the often use of it';(7) Communicative strategy is positively correlated with content, fluency and the general score, however there are no significant correlations between communicative competence and pronunciation, grammar and appropriate speaking as well. The result of the analysis of variation indicated that communicative strategy influences fluency most significantly, however it is somewhat limited to the influence of content and the general score; (8) There are significant negative correlations between mother language strategy and the factors composing communicative competence in spoken English as well as its general score.
