The thesis makes a penetrating introduction and assessment about the English famous art educator, critic and theorist Herbert ?Read's theory of art education "Educationthrough Art" -Training children's creativity and personality, promoting the moralquality development of everybody. The thesis Concentrates on children's fine art education. On the basis of rejecting the dross and assimilating the essence, I make certain exploring breakthrough.The thesis is made up of four parts: I.Summarize and comment generally on Read's thought of art education, II. Narrate and assess Read's thought of art; III. Cultivate children's creativity through fine art education. The part discusses the meaning ofcreativity, Read's opinion about the development of creativity-integrating and guiding,the consciousness and thought which have something with children's fine art activities, the relationship of thinking and images, and the factors which have great influence on the expression of creativity in the children's fine art activities. Based on the above , I put forward four suggestions as follows: 1. Teachers must build up the thought that everyone has creativity; 2. Lead children to explore "new words"; 3. Establish free, relaxed and democratic atmosphere in classroom; 4. Grasp the degree of passive teaching and initiative guiding. IV. Differentiate children's types through fine art education, as the basis of individual character education. The part discusses the purpose and significance, Read's research about the relationship between personality and the type of children's fine art expression, the practical discussion to Read's thought, the opinion about the situation of our nation's fine art education. Taking the factors above into account, I give some pieces of advice on carrying out fine art education to promoting the development of children's personality according to children's mental types. 1. Know clearly children's fine art works, children's artistic style, furthermore, understand children . 2. Strengthen the course's suitability and direction to different individuals through strengthening the course's flexibility, variety, synthesis. 3. On cultivating individual character, the teacher's duty need to change from teaching knowledge to guiding students, and adjust the portion of teaching and guiding. 4.Teach students in accordance with their aptitude. 5. The new assessment of fine art education.
