Art education is a kind of social behavior that the educatees can master holistic knowledge and creative ability by using art educational ways. On its way to new development, art education continuously puts forward new challenges to art educationalist on qualities, characters and social function. Nowadays, it brings forward new task on its position, role and reformational development direction under the frame of education for all-round development.The thesis mainly discusses the developmental history of western and eastern art education in middle school. It deeply analyses the active functions of middle school art education development in consummating quality education system and accelerating educatees' integrated development. By consulting the middle school new course reformation, the thesis also analyzes the developmental direction of art education and puts forward some new ideas on middle school art education. In order to consummate the quality of art education, improve and reform teaching quality, the thesis gives some advices:Firstly, the thesis mainly analyses the developmental history of art education in western European countries, such as, Germany, France, Japan and America. The developmental history is divided into two periods (ancient and modern) in order to analyze Chinese fine art education: concept, practice, and progress. Focus is on the basic features and principles of development.Secondly, the paper analyzes the role of fine art education and also generalizes its unique functional value from three aspects: emotional transfer, intelligence education ,and fine art culture. This is the first analyses in the nature of fine arts education.Lastly, based on the above investigation this paper makes a comprehensive analyses of the new curriculum reform of fine arts education. The paper explores the present challenges of the reform and reviews its current direction in middle schools. Finally the paper puts forth a framework for teaching fine arts in middle schools and a rationale for how fine arts education can be carried out. It is hoped that others can use this paper as a reference for fine arts education research and other general disciplines.
