Line, as one of the major methods of expression, is the straightest way to express sentiment in artistic creation, and plays a very important role in the development of Chinese drawing. There, we can find the forms of line are vivid and romantic and have created colorful world in art after combined with fitting colors. During the beginning of line in Chinese drawing, it has been brought profuse technique and intelligence by generational painters and has formed a characteristic complete system in technique and theory. Today, how we deal with line in artistic creation and view its performance is an important issue that we have to face.This paper is divided into five parts.Introduction: Raising the question of line in Chinese drawing.Chapter I: The aesthetic paraphrase of line that has been pointed out by Gufayongbi.Chapter II: The meaning of line viewed from philosophy in Chinese drawing. The thinking and spirit of Chinese philosophy caused the status of line in Chinese drawing.Chapter III: Aesthetic remark to line in Chinese drawing1. Qiyunshengdong(vivid) is a embodiment of line's power.2. Drawing in the form of calligraphy makes the art of line obtain morespace in Chinese drawing.Chapter IV: The status of line in Chinese drawing. On the base of studying the history and present situation of using line express bodies inChinese drawing, combining with existing innovational achievement, we bring forward the possible direction of the development of the art of line in Chinese drawing.
