In Chinese, the words with "not" apparently have a strong negative and affirmative symmetric quality. For example, "good-not good", "useful-not useful". As a matter of fact, the symmetry is very limited. The author conducts closed - door probe on the Chinese words with prefix-"not" in "Modern Chinese Dictionary "(Enlarged Edition in 2002), and finds in all the 326 words with "not" listed in the dictionary, only 19 words are completely symmetric, accounting for 5.82%. The figure shows that in Chinese, the words with prefix "not" are widely non-symmetrical in negative and affinitive form. This article divides the326 words with the prefix "not" into 6 classes: general words, set phrases, archaisms, terms, idioms and dialects. Each class can be divided into 3 types according to its negative and affirmative non-symmetry quality Completely non-symmetric type, partially non-symmetric type and limited symmetric type.In the third part of the article, the author provides an analysis and comparison about these words' meanings and syntactic functions, and elaborates that the words prfix "not" possess negative and affirmative non-symmetric quality with the help of the dictionary explanations and examples, then draws a conclusion that the non-symmetric quality widely exists. In the end, the article takes a preliminary probe in the cause. The article is aimed at the further realization of the non-symmetry phenomena in Chinese language.
