When BiSheng discovered wood movable-type printing in Song Dynasty, it indicated a great creation and improvement of printing not only in China but also around the world. But in China, the wood movable-type printing went slowly, even several centuries later, didn't take the place of wood block for printing.Even though, there still came several outstanding persons who had made great contribution to movable-type printing in the history, such as WangZhen and JinJian. Especially with JinJian's effort, movable-type printing became perfect not only in theory but also in technique. He improved movable-type printing techniques , at the same time ,he summarized all skills, operation procedures and experience into a pamphlet which named The Pattern of Precious Collection in WuYingDian Palace .This thesis is divided into three parts: the first part makes a textual research of the author's life, his origin native place and discusses the relation between his nationality and movable-type printing in WuYingDian Palace. The second part makes a brief account of this pamphlet: its writing background, its content and its far-reaching historical significance. This part also discussed the coordinate relation between the creation of pattern and the publication of the series. The last part of this thesis mainly discusses the reason of sluggish development of ancient Chinese movable-type printing. The main goal of the thesis is to deeply understand the ancient Chinese movable-type printing by means of all combined discussions: its historical changes, its success and deficiency.
