The Relationship Between Landscape Poetry And Landscape Painting Of Song Dynasty

It's a long history to break through the artistic boundary between painting and poetry and to integrate them into a whole. The process of integration is large-scale and continuing, which became evident, and developed and reached the maturity until Song Dynasty. Based on the creation of landscape poetry and landscape painting in Song Dynasty, the present thesis carefully probes into the details of integration of landscape poetry and landscape painting, and appropriately locates the special role of Song in the history of relationship between poetry and painting, in accordance with the theories on poetry, painting and the relationship between the two in the years of Song.The introduction investigates and summarizes the relationship between poetry and painting pre-Song, and generalizes the development and the theoretical achievements of the relationship in Song. The emphasis of the present thesis is placed on studying the interaction of external and internal contents in landscape poetry and landscape painting at the time of Song. Evoking landscape poems in painting and landscape painting in poems are the two components of the appearance in the integration of poetry and painting. Influenced by landscape painting of Song Dynasty in terms of theme, perspective, pattern, and way of expression, landscape poetry of Song formed new artistic features. Landscape painting made use of the way of expression in creating poetry and broke down the confine in the theme; Song's landscape poetry borrowed and expanded the aesthetic function of poetry by combining heart with mind. Furthermore, the thesis reveals the profound interaction between poetry and painting from three angles of aesthetic pursuit, creation of the mood in literary works, and spiritual moulding: investigating the subtle interaction between qige of poetry and yige of painting; analysing the identity and correspondence between the mood of landscape poetry and landscape painting; discussing the common demands of poets and painters to mould spirits.To sum up, there was an essential development in the relationship between poetry and painting of Song Dynasty-from spontaneity to consciousness, from the part to the whole, from practice to theory, from the superficiality to profoundness. In other word, poetry and painting fuse comprehensively and the fusion increases progressively. The evolution in different directions and at different levels strongly filled a special role of Song Dynasty in the history of relationship between poetry and painting, in which the age of Song was a new page.
