Peking TungWen College was the earliest modern government school in the late Ch'ing period and the origins of the modern advanced education in China. The thesis tires to analyzes the introduction of western educational system in modern times by discussing the training for Chinese modern diplomats and dialyzes the influence of the new educational system on the modernization process of Chinese society under the effect of western powers The Tsungli Yamen and the feudalistic system.The thesis consists of three parts: the introduction the main body and the conclusion.The introduction not only makes a brief retrospect of the research achievements on Peking Tungwen College in recent years. But also explains the necessity of choosing this topic and the writing methods of this article.The main body is divided into three parts. Part one outlines the establishment background and the evolution of Peking Tungwen College. Part two discusses its contribution to the modernization of Chinese diplomacy and analyzes the relations between Peking Tungwen College and the Tsungli Yamen. As a higher authority, Tsungli Yamen supported the foundation and development of Peking Tungwen College, which promoted the modernization of Chinese society. But, Its limitations led to the failure of Peking Tungwen College, because Peking Tungwen College couldn't catch up with historical trend. Part three expounds Peking Tungwen College became a contradictory combination of advancement and conservation under the influence of all force. It stimulated the process of the modernization of Chinese society, and meanwhile brought many obstacles.The conclusion maintains that Peking Tungwen College fostered lots of modern diplomats and made contributions to the translation of foreign writings and the spread of western learning. But the introduction of the western advanced system under certain historical conditions brought about a series of social problem up to now which restricted the modern Chinese development.
