It is very important to study the personalities of the pilots. During these research, we can make sure what kinds of personalities can affect the pilots while they're working and these researches can give us evidence for the psychology select and the training of the pilots. There are quite a lot of researches about the pilots' personalities both civil and abroad. Among these, there are two important items ,one is the relationship between the pilots' personalities and their working performance , the other is the evaluation and the training of the pilots' personalities. But the related researches can't satisfy us.Based on past study, this research is trying to study the relationship between the pilots' personalities and their performance while they're flying a single-engine plane. This research use 16PF, which has high quality and is easy to work with, as the evaluate tools. 121 flight students who will graduate in 2004 in the China Civil Aviation Flight University are tested in this research. We study the relationship between the pilots' personalities and their flight performance in Initial Flight Training according to the survey of those students. The result is:1. The flight students all have those personalities such as: high C, high E, high B; and low O, low Q4 , because they are all selected specially before they enter the flight university.2. According to the analysis of the flight students' personalities and their training performance, we find those personalities as C, E, H,L, Q4 are obviously related to their training time before they have the single-flying examination.3. The further result of regression analysis shows that C, L among the sixteen personalities factors have some kind of estimate function to the flight performance of those students in their training, especially C.4. Self report skill can be used as a tool for the psychology select of the pilots.5. Those personalities, such as emotion stability, should be one of the important items to evaluate the non-technique factors of those flight students. Those evaluation items which are used now need to be described more scientifically and the evaluation standards needto be made clearer.6. There are two problems need further research. One is to define more scientifically the performance of the flight students during their flight training, the other is to design some ways which can record the flight performance more scientifically and more easily.7. Other factors which can effect the pilots' flight training performance should be one part of the later research.
