Since the second half of the 20th century, the idea of inter-disciplinary transplantation has been widely practiced in researches of natural science and social science, applicating new principles into related subjects and thus promoting the development of the research. Based on the same idea, the dissertation aims at providing a new approach to explain some concrete problems in translation by applying the principles found in information theory.Redundant information is an important term and concept in information theory. By defining it as "a helpful factor in language construction, conveyance and understanding with not addition of the content of information", we analyze the active functions of redundancy at syntactic, semantic and pragmatic levels and their differences between English and Chinese. Analyses above will provide as the theoretical bases for our research on keeping balance of redundancy in Chinese translation of English articles. In the dissertation, the criterion of translation, which is one of the key problems in translation theory, and shall be under the guidance of the principle of objectivity, the principle of relations and the principle of analyzing on specific problems from materialist dialectics, deserves our great attentions. We conclude that the translator, as the core of translation activity, is both the acceptor and also the spreader and examiner of information. A qualified translator should take into consideration of both source language and target language, convey the information of source language text as much as possible, and arouse approximative responses between the readers who read thesource language text and those who read the target language text. Finally, we conclude that a good translator should render a text with idiomatic target language and translate the cultural factors with foreignization. In detail, we bring forward the skills for the Chinese translation of English articles in the levels of language and culture. In language rendering, means of literal translation, addition and omission are tend to be used in order to keep or adjust the redundancy in the target language text. Bearing in mind that the cultural factors should be fully kept, we suggest using the methods of Intratextual Addition and Extratextual Annotation.Against the background of globalization, translation, by nature, is a kind of cross-lingual and cross-cultural communication. There are problems to be solved in the process of translation (conflict between source language and target language, foreignization and domestication, etc.) However, it'll be easier for us to master the nature and process of translation and to deal with the practical problems if we study the translation activity in view of its language rendering and its culture interpretation separately. Starting from this point of view, we specifically contribute the redundant information into Chinese translation of English articles.
