Chu Hsi (1130-1200.A.D) a great scholar of the Sung Dynasty, famous for his commentary on the Confucian classics which has been considered a standard exposition. The poems of a scholar who devoted to the study of the classics with a philosophical approach have never played a great role in the history of the Chinese literature. They were often connected with the poems of metaphysicists and considered uninteresting. Actually both of them have a close relationship.As a result, abstruse writings was the source of Chinese landscape poems and added some new blood to the literature. Poets of Sung Dynasty often wrote poems with not common words, intelligence and scholarship, and comments. In the situation, poems of scholars were only a way of comments. They had no invention and special features.It is unfair to have the bias on Chu Hsi. As a complete concert of philosophy, he built his own objective idealistic philosophy. Being a model of scholars , he also mastered a lot of knowledge on history and literature. He loved poems in his life . Both his poems and comments writings were worthy of reading in these days. Moreover, the landscape poems of Chu Hsi were improved by his idea and come to form his own peculiarities.Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism came to blend harmoniously, and that poems connected with speculation were the unique features of Sung Dynasty.Chu Hsi' s landscape poems showed those features. On the base of the pre-Chu Hsi's scholar, the landscape poems of Chu Hsi became to convey philosophical principles. Chu Hsi was different from other poets. In his writings, the philosophical principles were bond with poems. Alough the poems were less important than the principles, they were equal with speculation .Chu Hsi always tried his best to control his emotions in his poems and never let them free.There were some new peculiarities in the landscape poems of Chu Hsi. Firstly, the emotion was controlled by the reason. Secondly, the landscape turned to be a carrier of morality instead of the personification.Thirdly , discription with implied deepmeanings and clearly and smoothly.With the research of the landscape poems of Chu Hsi , we can realize the idea and peculiarities of his poems, which will help us to master his tendency of writing completely and delineate the inner world of his.
