This dissertation, from various perspectives, discusses the syntactic and semantic performance, the function and the semantic features of the "Chabuduo", and explains the internal mechanism of its development from one stage to another. This thesis consists of four chapters.Chapter 01: This chapter discusses the category of the "Chabuduo" on the basis of its syntactic position and points out that a paradox will appear if the "Chabuduo" is classified by current lexical category theory, it also concludes that the "Chabuduo"is not just a adjective but a adverb as well. This section also explains the basis of word-class-dividing with the help of theory, and puts up some new opinions.Chapter 02: From syntactic distribution of "Chabuduo this section divides it into two types: the "Chabuduo" in clausal hierarchy and that in phrasal level. In different levels, "Chabuduo" has different scope and different semantic orientation. "Chabuduo" has been grammaticalized from a lexical element into a functional element. As a modifier, the"Chabuduo" influences the syntactic performance of the universal quantification NP.Chapter 03: This section studies the fossilized process in which the "Chabuduo" evolves from a phrase to a word. In fact, analogy and reanalysis are the two most important mechanisms which directly lead to the fossilized process. From facts in dialects, the future development of the"Chabuduo"can be predicted.Chapter 04 : Comparing "Chabuduo" with "Chayidian", this section analyzes the collocational restrictions which result from the semantic features of "Chabuduo", and concludes the semantic features of "Chabuduo" and "Chayidian". Because of their different inherent semantic features, "Chabuduo"and "Chayidian" have different distribution in syntax.
