Semantic orientation analysis has been the hot topic since 1980s in the field of Chinese grammar. Taking it as a background, semantic orientation theory develops rapidly. It studies the objective phenomena and rules of semantic orientation.Usually, the orienting and the oriented have mutual selectivity. The semantic orientation structure contains the components of the orienting and the oriented. The orienting, which is subordinate to the oriented, has the semantic function on affecting the oriented. The oriented should match the orienting on semantics, their coordination must give attention to rationality, legitimacy and applicability. "The semantic affection" is the essential character of the orienting and is the criterion of distinguishing the orienting from the oriented. Semantic orientation ambiguity is a kind of special semantic structure ambiguity.Semantic orientation theory is valuable to deepen the study of Chinese grammar. It is a contribution to common linguistics from Chinese grammatical scholars.Semantic orientation is a syntactic category. Therefore, the study of the semantic orientation of words cannot be separated from the study of syntactic structure. The semantic orientation of a certain type of words actually refers to the situation where the words are located in a specified point of the syntactic structure or are functioning as a certain syntactic constituent. As long as a type of words has a syntactic place and can exercise semantic affection on other syntactic constituents, they are considered to be having semantic orientation. Thanks to the research of the predecessors of this field, this thesis takes a step further in the study of the semantic orientation of certain adjectives, such as"只","都,""就"ect., and points out the possibility of carrying out a multi-direction study of the Chinese semantic orientation theory.
