The essay analyzes the phenomena of Chinese art after the 1980s and the confusions of the historical background and reasons for them. At the same time, with the re-recognition of the western modern aesthetics and classicism, the relationship among modernism, post-modernism as well as classicism is discussed. Their development and practical significance are treated dialectically. The analysis, on the one hand, advocates the spirit and value of arts creativity, diversity not generality, nature of truth, kindness and beauty not fakeness, wickedness and ugly arts. On the other hand, it emphasizes the essence of the traditional culture, seeks the integration of the west and the east, the classicism and modernism, reason and sensibility, science and art as well to create Chinese oil painting with spirit of times, regional flavor, and individual character.
