In this thesis, the reason of new figurative painting to be born and its development course were discussed, the essence of new figurative painting spirit and its importance for the development of future art were also reviewed. This paper also analyzed the artistic styles of some representative new figurative painters, the explorative course for it, and how the painters chose figurative artistic languages through their experiences, and expressed new meanings which are different from the traditional "figurative" (realistic) painting. Additionally, this paper also discussed the domestic responses for new figurative painting from china.When the painting developed to extreme simplism of abstract art, seemingly there are not any roads in front; when artistic style developed to actions, equipments, the painting seem to be insignificant. However, the painting exceeded the past, found the resurrection from the tradition. The painting exceeded the extreme prejudice between the modernism and tradition, regress toward western traditional figurative art boldly, and meanwhile, it combined all facts of modernism and traditional realistic art style, lead the naissance of new figurative art with more expressive force. New figurative painting takes the figure as the precondition of the art, expresses new understandings for the art and the world with the art way of figure. However, being differ from the traditional realistic painting, new figurative painting show versatile art directions. While producing new figurative painting, most of the new figurative painters pay more attention to expressing the subjective spirits, some painters still try to image the "pure" objective world without any subjective factors. New figurative painting developed and expanded the area of figurative art profoundly, and enriched the painting characteristics of figurative art in choosing topics, form principle, technique exercise and etc. The regression of figurative painting is the development phase of art on a higher level, but not a simple, mechanical historical repeat.
