On The Tragedy Of Karl Jaspers

As one of the founders of existentialism, Jaspers had been exerting himself to study the human's existence, taken tragedy for the consciousness of the existence' essence. His concept of grenzsituation expressed a contradiction framework of human's existence: the unity of limitation and limitlessness or frustration and transcendence. Thiscaused the split of existence--tragedy consciousness. The latter were the basic attributeof tragedy. The tragedy of Jaspers was about the truth, he clarified it for humans. He told us that the knowledge of tragedy was not only about the cognizance, but also the survival function, It was a special emancipation of the transcendence. The tragedy was only an object phenomenon of directly facing the life and trying to surpass the freedom consciousness, existence was revealed before us in the form of misery, we must ask for the truth, which, in fact, was non-existent, through surpassing the reality, so this caused the real misery. The present paper, through Jaspers' expound and comparison of six different typical tragedies, deeply analyzed the all forms of tragedy and got to know the certainty result of it. Proving his deliverance of the tragedy's transcendence, that is to say, the deliverance in the tragedy. By this, the paper also discussed that the tragedy of Jaspers militated the man's spirit, even the aesthetic consciousness of human's existence.
