This paper studies the C-E character name translation in literary works by comparing the Chinese character names with the English counterparts. Based on a discussion on the formation and characteristics of Chinese character names, the writer explores the difficulties of character name translation mainly from 3 aspects: linguistic, cultural and personal. In order to overcome the difficulties, the writer then respectively applies theory of poem translation, Nord's model of literary communication and translator's cognitive view to the 3 aspects and attempts to give a comparatively comprehensive research on the topic in question. Finally, the writer concludes that, in order to achieve a good translation of C-E character names, the translator should take the 3 factors into consideration and put the theories into practice.
