This paper, based on the current research of the Tu folk music, tries to classify the Tu folk songs comprehensively according to its social function, performing places and musical characteristics; Analyze its features in terms of its prevalent variation and classical pieces, musical characteristics and singing language. Meanwhile, it makes a comparative research on regional characteristics of Huzhu and Minhe areas so as to discuss the Han and Tibetan culture around the two areas as well as the influences of other traditional cultures on process and development of the Tu folk songs from the aspects of religious belief, folk-custom, minority language and Han and Tibetan folk music, exploring the contributing factors of its features and regional characteristics.
