Against the historical background of the Chinese Country Novels in 20th century, basing on the changing social and cultural thoughts and literature rules, this dissertation tries to straighten out the ideological and article trace of the pluralistic development of the Chinese Country Novels in 1990s.The first and the second part: Straightens out the concept of the Chinese Country Novels, sketches the historical trace of its development, provides historical background and reference for discussing the Chinese Country Novels in 1990s. Two inditing tendencies appear at the beginning of the country novels: one is writing realistically, the other is writing emotionally. Writing realistically was tightly close to the social reality and became the mainstream of the country novels, favored by many writers. With the change of the social environment, the utilitarian function of the country novels was strengthened and sharpen continually, meanwhile the independence of the writers was lost gradually. By the time of the Culture Revolution, the country novels degenerated as political propaganda accessories. This situation was mended slowly as the New Era approaching. In 1990s, pluralistic developments unfolded on the country novels. The third part: realistic country novels: inertial penetration of political ideology into discourse. This part mainly analyzes country novels written by Liu xing-long, He Shen, Guan Ren-shan, and Tan Wen-Fen, etc. Influenced by traditional thoughts, these writers followed closely the social tide, showed great zeal on narrating magnificently. Their works exhibits impartially and truly: the political and economical changes in the countryside, the mental flux of the peasants in the transforming period. Their works conveys the voice of the country, of the people, of the era. Contrasting present "verging on the edge" culture, they still try their best to make literature "return to the center".The fourth part: free country novels: combining intellectual elite discourse with folk discourse. Based on the "civilian theory", this part stresses on analyzing the works of Zhang Wei, Han Shao-gong, and Li Ray, etc. In the course of going deep into life, these country novel writers are charmed by the magic of the country folks, their woks consciously set foot on the country lives, demonstrating the rich and hugeness of the country living vividly. They disinter the life spirit of the civilians as freedom; construct a poetic country world vigorously. The fifth part: prototypal country novels: folk discourse back to the highlight. This part mainly analyzes the works of Liu Yu-Tang, Liu Zheng-Yun, and Chi Zi-Jian, etc. These country novel writers treat the country world and demonstrate the folk living with peasant's thinking method and sensitivity. Their works subsequently emit strong folk tinct. Liu Yu-Tang, wielding peasant's discourse, recounted original country folk living. Liu Zhen-Yun, seeing through farmer's eyes, ascended to the previous country history. Chi-Zi-Jian, Zhang Yu, and Yan Lian-Ke, following the flow of emotion, sought out moral human relations hidden in the civilian world. The sixth and seventh part. Basing on the above straightening and discussing, this part analyzes briefly the cause of the pluralistic developments of the Chinese Country Novels in 1990s, pointing out: the pluralistic value tendencies, narration standpoints, narration angles, tasting styles of the Chinese Country Novels are the root to demonstrate artistically the entire Chinese country lives, to make others possible to realize the Chinese country communities impartially. This part also discusses the defects of the Chinese Country Novels.
