The realization of a speech act is closely related to the context. A different context may require the speaker/writer to use a different way to achieve the same goal. Based on this fact and inspired by some ideas in pragmatic and communicative studies, the thesis uses illocutionary act, pragmatic context and pragmatic texture to construct a macro framework, in which text pragmatic production of translations is analyzed. The thesis starts its discussion with the analysis of text act. According to Speech Act theory, language users not only state or describe something, they also perform actions. Language users may perform three acts simultaneously: locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act. Among the three, illocutionary acts are the focus of the studies, because they are in accordance with intentions of language users. In its preliminary stage, Speech Act theory mainly examines individual sentences. Modern linguists believe a text is the primary form of linguistic communication. Speech Act theory in its development has to deal with how language users use texts to do things. If a sentence is a relatively independent speech act, a text will be a sequence of speech acts. But a text fulfills an intention of the text user; all the speech acts in the text are related to the intention. In other words, the sequence must have the nature as that of an integrated speech act. Motsch and Viehweger use a hierarchical structure to combine the sequence. In this structure, illocutionary acts on the higher levels are dominant ones, and those on the lower levels are subsidiary ones. The one on the highest level of the hierarchical structure is the act of the text, which is realized through the hierarchical structure in its dominance. This way of analysis not only meets the requirement of making the sequence of speech acts an integrated one, but also can make any dominant illocutionary act in the hierarchical structure a text act to meet needs of any ongoing discussion. This flexibility of text is of significance to the application of textlinguistics to translation studies. Text act decides the hierarchical structure of the speech acts sequence, and this structure is called pragmatic texture. To analyze the realization of text act in the production, pragmatic context is ar. important factor to be taken into consideration. A different pragmatic context may lead to the split of perlocutionary act from the illocutionary act. They are coincident in the original pragmatic context when a text is produced. We should take illocutionary act, pragmatic texture and pragmatic context together into consideration to analyze the realization of a text act, which is an important area in the studies on production of texts. This thesis is an attempt to analyze the macro production of translations within a framework consisting of these three elements.Having defined illocutionary act, pragmatic texture and pragmatic context, the thesis goes on with the discussion about the two points: 1) illocutionary acts of translations. In this section, the possibility to relay the text act of the SLT to the TLT and the text act peculiar to the translations receive more attention; 2) the pragmatic context for the production of translations. The focus is on the influences of general pragmatic context and special pragmatic context on the realization of illocutionary acts of translations. The former refers to the contextual elements that cause deviations of target pragmatic texture from that of the original, while the latter, is that helps the deviations of the pragmatic texture to fulfill the illocutionary acts of TLT. They work negatively and positively to help construct the target texture. These two points are analyzed in view of their influences on pragmatic texture. On the basis of the above analysis, the thesis finally makes a preliminary discussion on some problems related to translating in a text pragmatic approach. It firstly constructs a text pragmatic framework for production of a TLT in which motivatio...
