On the tendency of the thought circle of Hunan Province in the Reform Movement Hunan Province, where the force of the old-fashioned persons concentrated in before Sina-Japanese War of 1894-1895, took the repelling attitude towards the advanced culture, thoughts from foreign country. And Hunnan was famous for its hate to the west religion and foreigners in the whole country. The failure of China in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 irritated the compatriot and irritated the people of Hunan more deeply. They realized the gap between China and Western imperialist Powers and awakened suddenly. The idea of reform for development began to be popular. Supported by official side, Tan Sitong, Liang Qichao, Tang Caichang and Pi Xirui etc, advocated the reform. They established the newspapers Xiangxuebao and Xinagbao, which propagated new thoughts, established the Nanxuehui with nature of legislative, also founded the school of Shiwuxuetang, which trained new type talents. There was a big trendence of reform in Hunan Province. Although they had some differences with the reformers, so-called the old-fashioned persons Wang Xianqian, Ye Dehui etc, were participants and leaders in most reform industries and their thoughts were to be new in general. In addition, the officers advocated westernization Movement had also played an important role. Because each parties couldn't take common ground while reserving difference and debate endlessly, the spreading of the new thoughts in Hunan Province died too early. The moral was profound.
