On Shuo Wen Zi Yuan

Shuo Wen Zi Yuan, written by Zhou Boqi in early Yuan Dynasty period, is a book of Chinese characters which researches on the book Shuo Wen Jie Zi.It is worth standardizing Chinese characters and researching their developing rules though little attention has been given to it.The author tries to analyze the contents of Shuo Wen Zi Yuan by some scientific approaches and to discuss its significance in philology. An overall introduction and evalution of this book will be presented in terms of six aspects in this thesis.Part 1 To introduce the author s life and study with the the focus on the purpose of this book.Part2 To introduces the book s formation and editions.Part3 To present a detailed description of the book' s stylistic rules and layout. Part4 To introduce the characteristic of Shuo Wen Zi Yuan' s parapharase.Part5 To verifie difference of script between Shuo Wen Zi Yuan and Shuo Wen Jie Zi.Part6 To verifie the exact number of the characters which are added or canceled by Shuo Wen Zi Yuan compared with Shuo Wen Jie Zi,and analyses its reason.At last.the paper points out the merit and weakness of Shuo Wen Zi Yuan. As far as Shuo Wen Zi Yuan' s value is concerned,it analyzed and grasped Chinese character' s pattern correctly.much analysis are similar to original pattern and original connotation of Chinese character. Of course ,it has its defects, too, such as ,he denied many popular form of characters etc.
