This thesis is mainly to discuss the poems on knight errant written in Tang Dynasty,its substans,its artistic expression,its aesthetic style and its process. During the Tang Dynasty, the concept of knight errant is wider than ever before,so the poems about it are far better than before, from its richer materials to its deeper meanings. On its materials,it includes ancient chivalry,knight errant in Tang Dynasty and others. On its meanings,it is to extol,to eulogize,to castigate or to sneer at. From every description above,the life story of the literati of Tang Dynasty and their values are incarnated. The poems on knight errant written in Tang are highly ripe in the artistic expression,rich in types of literature and varied in the emotional expression. The poets give vivid description of all kinds of chivalry,expressing their emotion,especially it comes to those they venerated,enthusiasm and pride filled them,which made the figures,the settings and the imagery magnificant,as well as the lifelike depiction. The poems on knight errant are fostered in the flourishing age of Tang and vanished with the waning of Tang and the shackles of growing sterner fedual doctrines,until The novels on gallants replaced it, being dominant in the history of literature.
