This thesis is a component of a book with the name "On Patriarch Clan System of ChineseMinority "which is "The Tenth Five—Year Plan" focal task of Guangxi Normal University. My supervisor,Professor Qian Zongfan, is in charge of this task. The patriarchal system is a kind of family system and clansystem not only characterized by clan authority and patriarchy, but also containing class antagonism as well.As a special social phenomenon, it has been on for several thousand years, which effected socialdevelopment deeply and enormously.In the recent twenty to thirty years, the domestic scholars began to study the patriarchal system, butthere is a disputation about them. Some scholars suggested that combine the basic theories on patriarch ofMarxism-Leninism with the reality of China, which would be the best way to study the patriarchal system.Some people insisted on the traditional feudal theories, others were in favor of the theories of anthropologyand sociology, which came from the western countries. I think that the traditional feudal theories had beennegated by most scholars for a long time in the past, and the ideology of Marxism-Leninism-Mao ZedongThought is the scientific truth in the patriarchal study, besides the theories of anthropology and sociologyalso offer a new way to study the patriarch. Although, some specialists and scholars of the Dai Nationality'sresearcher have pointed out the existence of patriarchal and feudal system in ancient society of the DaiNationality in Xishangbanna, it still has not further research about the patriarchal culture of the DaiNationality. This thesis combines the basic theories of Marxist-Leninist and historical viewpoints with theanthropological and sociological theories to analyze the documental records and various statistics data aboutThe Dai Nationality in Xishangbanna, and compares which with the patriarchal culture of other nationalities,through which I want to reveal the basic characteristics, the causes, the social influence and thecontemporary reforms of the Dai Nationality in Xishangbanna's patriarchal culture. The author expects tomake preliminary exploration into patriarch clan system of the Dai Nationality by means of this thesis,deepen our understanding of the Dai Nationality's history and existing state of Chinese patriarch clan systemand be in opening service of casting a brick to attract jade for domestic scholars to deeply study the DaiNationality's patriarch clan system.The Dai Nationality is an important minority with a long history in China. From ancient times, the DaiNationality has been in the south of China. Especially the Dai Nationality in Xishangbanna, which has beenisolated with inland of Central Plains for a long time, and influenced little by the Han Nationality's culture.Its development course has fully represented the universal law developing of the patriarchal culture ofhuman society, and basically kept an original feature of development of the patriarchal culture of humansociety. In the course of development, the Dai Nationality's patriarchal and feudal ruling combines closelywith Buddhism of Theravada. It took on the upper ruling class utilized the unity of polities and religion tostrengthen the feudal and autocratic rule, and the lower poor people of the Dai Nationality near the doubleoppression and burden of feudal taxes at politics and of attempting Buddha (a kind of way for shoeing filialto Buddha) at religions. They kept a general and double Patriarchal and Feudal Relation in politics andreligions. The special background formed the special traditional patriarchal culture of the Dai Nationality.Firstly, the beginning of this thesis outlined the origin and development and the basic form in thehistory of the Dai Nationality in Xishangbanna with abundant datum after summarizing briefly the historyabout the Dai Nationality.
