In China, the archaeological work varies in different regions, which has been relatively weak in area between Yangtze River and Huaihe. This article chose Xuejiagang culture as the subject , then analyzed this culture and the correlative remains of this area. It is hoped that it would push forward the development of archaeological study in this region. The stages of the Xuejiagang culture, its area types, origination and subsequent culture, the relationship between neighboring cultures and itself, were important parts of this article. Based upon the periodization of Xuejiagang culture, for the first time this article divided it into three area types: that of the South-west of Anhui, that of the South-east of Hubei and that of the North of Jiangxi. These three types have experienced different developing processes. The origination of Xuejiagang culture had deep relationship with the archaeological remains of the type of Dongshancun of Majiabang culture in lower reaches of Yangtze River, and its type of the North of Jiangxi was finally integrated into Fanchengdui culture. As far as its development is concerned, in earlier stage it mainly expanded to south and west to form the type of the south-west of Hubei and that of the North of Jiangxi. In later period it occurred that this culture intended to spread eastward into the area of Nanjing. In general, Xuejiagang culture was tightly related with the cultures distributed in the region of the Taihu, but it can only be seen that the Latter exerted obvious influence upon the former. The relationship was less intimate between this culture and that of the areas of Nanjing, the central part of Jianghuai. This article also discussed the social structure based on the cemetery data of Xuejiagang culture.
