On the basis of the other previous studies, the thesis is intended to make an exhaustive, systematic and detailed study of the prepositions in The Book of Songs.The prepositions which the thesis attempts to probe into include: Yu (于) ,Yu (æ–¼),Hu (乎) ,Zi (自) ,Yi (以) ,Yu (与) ,Wei (为) ,Yong (用) ,You (ç”±) ,Ji (åŠ),Yuan (爰) ,Zai (在) ,Dai (迨) and soon.By means of a thorough investigation, quantitative research and qualitative analysis, the thesis aims at giving a detailed description of the prepositions from three aspects: semantic function, grammatical function and distribution. In addition, by means of vertical comparison, the thesis tries to probe into the origin of these prepositions and their development and to reveal the historical positions of these prepositions in The Book of Songs.
