Numeral "er" and "liang" can be expressed in modern Chinese number "2", belong to the same "number" of semantic category, and there are some differences in grammatical function, semantic function and pragmatic function, therefore it is easily prone to bias. On the basis of the consolidated results of previous studies, this paper will sort out and discriminate the usages of the word "er" and "liang" from the syntax, semantics and pragmatics. The paper will reveal the syntax, semantics and pragmatics distinction between the word of "er" and "liang", through using a variety of native and inter-language corpus, using the method of description and interpretation and the method of explanation quantitative and qualitative. Meanwhile, the thesis also investigated the acquisition of foreign students in "er" and "liang" and the bias of "er" and "liang", sum up the types of the bias and analyze the causes of bias. On the basis of the above functional comparison and error analysis, combined with my teaching practice, I incorporate some teaching methods and suggestions for distinguishing between "er" and "liang" in teaching Chinese as a second language. I hope that these teaching strategies will be helpful to teaching words in Chinese as a second language.
