The main studying object of this article is Zhang Ai-ling's fictions. Thus, it is used to analyze the specialities of the human routines and the growing elements in human nature during the year of 1930 to 1940 in China. Finally, it confers the contribution of Zhang Ai-ling's fictions on the Modern Chinese City of Arts. Her fictions appeared in 1940 when Shanghai was occupied by enemies. She used cultural exchange as the background to describe the decline of feudal families, the sudden rise of the modern city in the half-colonized society, and the rotten life of the people in the city at that time. To understand the special emphasis she laid on expressing the psychology of people and the moral values in the morbid society, descriptive writing and sociology are used to analyze the content and the formal ideas of her fictions. Besides, she used lots of colorful symbols, plentiful meanings of the appearance, ?nd close psychoanalysis to proclaim the cultural exchange of the East and West in China. We can analyze the morbidity of the human life and understand the society of 1930 to 1940 from her writings at the end of the article. By revealing her life experience and her connection between her fictional characters, we :an understand the change of the human psychology and the effect of the western culture on Zhang. This proves that her writings offer a unique and special contribution on the Chinese Modern City of Arts. She did not criticize and got lost in this colorful modern city. She used the spirit of a townsman to dispel the traditions of the two Shanghai Literature Parties. She also created a new branch whose writings are mainly based on folk customs and culture.
