The Comparative Study Of New Immigrant Images In The Works Of Ha Jin And Zhang Ling

After the implementation of the reform and opening policy in 1978,China rises a new wave of immigrants,who are known as new immigrants,and the writers who wrote their immigration experience is called new immigrant writers.Among immigrant writers,they wrote in their native language,known as Chinese language writers and written in the target language are called ethnic Chinese writers.But two types of writers have a great similarity in their works because they both describe the Chinese immigrant experience.Talking Ha Jin and Zhang Ling’s works,well-known immigrant writers of North America,as the research object,the research analyzes the similarities and differences between the two writers in writing the new immigrant images,and then to explore the implied cultural factors and to analyze Chinese individual image and Chinese national image in the works of new immigrant writers.The main body is divided into six parts:The introduction illustrates the research reason,research status at home and abroad,research contents and research purpose.The first chapter of this paper gives a brief introduction to the background of the new immigrants in North America and two writers personal experiences and works.Chapter two compares the various characters described by the works of Ha Jin and Zhang Ling,such as intellectuals in work,men and women in marriage,the role in family,and then analyzes the similarities and differences of their works.Chapter three analyzes the deep-stated reasons of the two writers’ different literary writing by the theory of accepting aesthetics and post-colonial.To my mind,the main reason lies in oriental writing techniques in Ha Jin works,while the Zhang Lingis standing in the position of "the third space",shaping the Chinese image.From this,analyzing cultural identity and cultural differences are how to influence their literature creation.Chapter four mainly discusses the significance of new immigrant image research.This paper focuses on the value of Zhang Ling’s Chinese language writing to the contemporary literary scene and new immigrant image written by two writers has the important status in the process of describing and shaping Chinese image.The conclusion summarizes the results and significance of this dissertation,and illustrates the problems existed in the paper,at the same time,on the basis of existing research as far as possible to continue in-depth research.
