Lu Shun and Bo Yang (hereafter shorten as Lu and Bo), two well-known essayists in the 20th century, make great achievement to the creation of novels as well. Owing to the similar social environments they live in, they share many similarities in their expressions of thought and art, from which we can feel the strong pulsation of the May 4th Movement in Chinese literature. The striking ones are as follows:The exposure of the deep-rooted bad habits of Chinese people. Lu digs his way to probe into the bad habits and resurface them in his novels. "阿Q", the name of an character in one of them, has become synonymous with the deep-rooted bad habit. And Bo focus more attention on those bad habits that are accustomed to people but receive no any concern. The presentation of the tragic life of the unlucky intellectuals. Lu centers on those ruined by the imperial examination system and Bo on the lower-strata ones. The catch of the bright side of human nature. Both of them present the bright side of human nature in their works as they expose the dark side. The concern for the marriage and love from the perspective of modern morality. They both criticize the irrationality of the old morality by the realistic description of sexual psychology. The characteristic of Christianity. Their works carry the characteristic of Christianity by adopting the technique of seeing the world from Children's eyes. Lu makes reflection on culture and Bo on the love and hate influenced by Christianity. The infiltration of modernism. Lu's infiltration of modernism is for the achievement of better effect. And Bo's for the better expression of writer's experience of life. The technique of slipperiness. Both use the technique to achieve better effect. We can see many similarities in their creation. But at the same time, Bo as a successor surpasses Lu in many ways such as the depth of expression and the width of material he chooses. On the other hand, there are also some differences. Lu's novels were widely accepted at the early years of his creation career. But Bo's didn't attract too much attention until the middle of 1990s. Both Lu and Bo make great contribution to the development of Chinese new literature. Under the typical historical condition, Bo's novels act as an decoding factor to the narration frame in Tai Wan's literary history set by those advocating Tai Wan independent from Chinese mainland in 1950s, helping people to see through the cloud. Seen from the whole, it can be said that the region where Bo lives stands for the source of main stream of Chinese new literature and becomes the center at that time.
