The rapid development of the Internet has greatly promoted the study of English teaching under network environment. As a new way of teaching, on-line English teaching is attached importance to increasingly. Compared with traditional classroom English teaching, on-line English teaching has such characteristics as great information capacity, strong interactivity, extensive coverage, etc. The point that modern teaching means including network should be taken full advantage of to promote English teaching has also been given special stress to in the newly issued College English Syllabus. So the English learning theory and teaching method under network environment have become a hot issue for researchers to study.As a key university in China, Dalian University of Technology has good network conditions. It is the author's concern how to make use of these conditions to carry out fruitful on-line English teaching. In this thesis, the author uses such research methods as questionnaire, interview, observation and literature analysis to explore the on-line English teaching model based on the Campus Network of DUT and suitable for DUT from different angles. The main body of the thesis contains five chapters. The first chapter reviews theories and practice related to on-line English teaching; the second chapter discusses characteristics of on-line teaching based on campus network and its advantages and disadvantages over traditional teaching; the third chapter introduces on-line teaching models based on campus network; in the fourth chapter, the author conducts a survey on feasibility of on-line English teaching at DUT and puts forward corresponding solutions to the problems that the survey result reflects, and designs two on-line English teaching models based on the Campus Network of DUT; the last chapter discusses the prospect and development orientation of on-line English teaching. The author believes that the research is of certain theoretical significance and practical value.
