Study On The Adjectives In Shi Shuo Xin Yu

Using statistical method, classification, camparing method, analysing method, etc, the thesis gives a minute description and explanation on the structual characteristics, phonetic forms and grammar functions of the adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu.And we have a limited diachronic camparing on the adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu.This thesis consists of five parts:In the first part, we give a brief introduction on the survy of the studing about the adjectives in archaic Chinese and Shi Shuo Xin Yu. And we have a introduction on Shi Shuo Xin Yu and its author, on the researching purpose, significance, methods and matierial of this thesis.In the second part, the structure characteristics of the adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu are analysed. Firstly, we try to find the adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu by refering the theories of Mordern Chinese studying. Secondly, we classify the adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu on the basis of its structure and analyse the quantitative differences of every categories of the adjectives. The adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu are more. The polysyllabic words are superior in number and the numbers of every structural types are not mean. The compound word is superior in the polysyllabic words, and its structural types are not more enough than that in Mordern Chinese.The co-ordinating polysyllabic word is the most type in amoumt in the polysyllabic words and more productive. The structural types of thesingle-morpheme words is complete, but its amount and productivity are poor.In the third part, we study the quality adjectives and state adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu.The adjectives are studied in these aspects: semontic categaries of the quality adjectives, the quality adjectives being modified by adverb, abilities of the quality adjectives to play the part of sentence elements, phonetic forms of the state adjectives, ability of the state adjectives to play the part of sentence elements, forms of the adjectives to use together. The ability of the quality adjectives and state adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu to play the part of sentence elements is strong. Both of them can play the part of all sentence elements. And the adjectives can be modified or limited by intensifier, limited adverb, timing adverb, modal adverb, and negtive adverb. The forms of using together of the adjectives are many.In the forth part, the adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu are studied by using diachronic camparing method. We make the diachronic camparing mainly in three aspects: structural types, phonetic forms, syntactic function. We campare the adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu with that in Chinese in the pre-Qin days and Mordern Chinese, also with that in Chinese in the age of recent antiquity.In the fifth part, the characteristics of the adjectives in Shi Shuo Xin Yu are summarised in three aspects: structural types, phonetic forms, syntactic function.
