The Study On Syntactic And Semantic Of SVC And Some Constructions Relevant To It

VRC is a syntax structure consists of a verb and its resultative complement. Accordingto Case grammar and GB theory, this present research centers on the VRC's semantic frameand arrangement of argument structure and theta structure. Furthermore, the researchdiscusses the applicable range of various Chinese constructions relevant to the VRC. 1. Chapter one centers on various semantic frames of VRC. These frames are dividedinto five types on the basis of differences of proposition's structures and the R's semanticindications. 2. The constructions relevant to the VRC can be changed into many other constructionssuch as verb-copying construction, "ba"-zi construction, topic construction etc, and thechanges must rely on some conditions. This chapter summarizes some conditions of thesechanges. 3. Chapter three discusses the arrangement of argument structure and theta structure.VRC can be divided into three types according to the semantic indications of subject of V andR. However, the VRC of "evaluation" should be regarded as an independent type. 4. There exists a "complementary distribution" between the VRC in verb-copyingconstruction and "ba"-zi construction. This chapter discusses the "complementarydistribution" on the basis of the arrangement of argument structure and theta structure. It isthe arrangement rules that cause the phenomenon of "complementary distribution".
