| "Verb+Resultative Complement"structure is used very frequently in Chinese. By contrasting such structure with relevant English structures on the basis of the analysis of example sentences from Chinese-English Corpus and online dictionary, we realized that there are kinds of ways in English to express similar semantic idea with Chinese"Verb+Resultative Complement"structures. Such ways of expressing includes a single word, phrasal verbs, verb add propositional phrase, and clauses which form a continuum at the extent of the combination of different language elements in the surface of language.Due to the different combination ways of semanteme on the surface of language, a single word in English is able to be used as the Resultative structure in Chinese. In addition, there exist different ways of factitive in Chinese and English, therefore, in English a single verb or the inflectional forms of a word can be adopted to express causative meaning of a verb. In defect of inflectional formative, Chinese makes use of"Verb+Resultative Complement"structure.We do find a structure in English which is similar with Chinese"Verb+Resultative Complement"structure both in syntactic features and in semantic features. Some linguists named it as"Resultative Construture". Such kind of structure will benefit the teaching of Chinese"Verb+Resultative Complement"structure. By compared with similar forms in English, difficulty of understanding Chinese Resultative structures may be reduced in teaching Chinese as a foreign language to students with English background. |
