There is a fund of information about folk belief in Dunhuang manuscripts, such as the cult of natural objects, the cult of illusory objects divination and witchcraft. All of them are authentic source materials. They give abundant information for studying folk belief.This thesis is composed of the following parts:The first part: This part is core and the key. Viewed from three different parts, such as the cult of natural objects, the cult of illusory objects, the cult of supernatural being, the thesis draws the outline of ghosts and gods in Dunhuang.The second part: The thesis makes explorations into condition of prevalent belief of Buddhism gods which are effected by China civilization, such as Tianwang, Guanyin, Wenshu, and studies relation between Buddhism and folk belief.The third part: Viewed from festival in Dunhuang, the thesis studies folk belief.The fourth part: The thesis epitomizes causes of folk belief and features of folk belief.To research this question can help us to understand daily life of people which are dominated by ghosts and gods, and influence of gods how are endowed by people, making a show of abundant life of people.
