The novels of Czech writer Milan Kundera sharply satirize the absurd and funny social conditions in the totalitarian society, and mock some basic values of the mankind, too. While gaining reputation of the world, they also caused the query and criticism of the cynical attitudes. Referring to other researchers' studies on Kundera's literature, this thesis analyses the whole connotation to Kundera's novels. The novels are not merely filled with the satiric attitude to the humorous affairs and the query to faith, but also permeated deeply by a kind of wise and rational tolerant attitude, too.The whole thesis includes four parts: the Introduction, Chapter one , Chapter two , and the Conclusion. The introduction explains the research purpose, the research approach, and the current study situations both in China and abroad.Chapter one analyses the double connotation of satiric and tolerant to history mainly, which is divided into two small parts. Section one starts from analysing the host Ludvik in The Joke, then goes to describe the images of a group of characters, at last sums up the main themes what the novels satirize history. It concentrates on analysing the totalitarian social historical conditions in Kundera's novel; Section two begins with probing into the tolerant attitude in The Farewell Party, then summarizes its calm introspection of the youth while pondering on the whole crazy history, finally adopts to the description and introspection of clean life under the historical shade, announces Kundera's novel tolerant attitude in the face of absurd history.Chapter two analyses the double connotation of satiric and tolerant to individual mainly, which is divided into two small parts. Section one begins with analysing the immortal vanity attitude in Immortality, then goes to depict the images of people who pursue the unreal love and faith, at last Sums up the satiric attitude to fawn on customs in the novels ; Section two starts from analysing the free spirit in The Unbearable Lightness of Being , then sums up the faith respecting the individual free choice in relative truth world in the novel text, and finally through representing the destroyed person's faith announces the appeal and expectation of the world to the individual in Kundera's novels.The conclusion sums up the whole thesis. Basing on the whole contents of Kundera's novels, The thesis announces Kundera's novels double connotation of satiric and tolerant to history and individual mainly.
