Professors and scholars all hold various kinds of viewpoints about the characteristic of Wen Xin Diao Long that Liu Xie wrote once upon a time .Now we agree that Wen Xin Diao Long was teaching us how to write, which Wang Yunxi drew a conclusion in the eighties of the last century. Moreover, the article brings forward an original idea that Wen Xin Diao Long is a book on Li Yan. And Li Yan is extraordinary. Li Yan is as important as Li De and Li Gong. The article aims at rereading and expounding Wen Xin Diao Long reasonably and originally by Li Yan.The whole article is made up of three chapters: the reasons of Li Yan; the necessity of Li Yan and the methods of Li Yan.Chapter 1 discusses the reasons of Li Yan. By analyzing family background, life experience and times, we know Liu Xie showed deep emotions on Li Yan that urged him to write and study. This is called the reasons of Li Yan.In order to realize his ideal, Liu Xie chose to make Li Yan and wrote Wen Xin Diao Long, which revealed that he wrote voluntarily and consciously. At the same time, he scorned a great achievement and gave impetus to "Wen di zi jue". Liu Xie was born in a poor family .He thought Li De should be the first most important, Li Gong the second and Li Yan the third. But all his life, Liu Xie devoted himself to Li Yan and made an achievement on it. In his eyes, Li Yan was helpful to Li Gong. In some sense, Li Yan equated Li Gong. "Correct the later phases and return to the root" stemmed from Zong Jing. "The root" means Confucian classics and "the later phases" pointed out literary compositions in rhyme at that time. Confucian classics is of Li Yan. He put forward Li Yan tactfully and some new requirements on writing to remedy depraved customs in literature of Qi and Liang. "Zuo" is used frequently in Wen Xin Diao Long. To make Li Yan is original, substantial, reasonable, and emotional in content so "Zuo" is the foundational feature. But Liu Xie didn't ignore "Shu".Chapter 2 discusses the necessity of Li Yan. The Way was a logical hypothesis when Liu Xie wrote Wen Xin Diao Long. The Way can promote literature position and strengthen the necessity of Li Yan.Liu Xie raised the theory of the mind: the mind of the Way ~ the mind of Heaven and Earth - the literary mind. "Take for their source the mind of the Way to set forth their writing " means writing by the mind of the Way. "For is not pattern in words the mind of Heaven and Earth!" means writing by the mind of Heaven and Earth. In a word, "the literary mind "means "the use the mind in writing." The pattern in Wen Xin Diao Long includes the pattern of the Way, the pattern of the nature and the human pattern. The pattern of the Way is in great and ideal state among the three. When he talked about where the literature came into being, Liu Xie looked up to the pattern of the nature. But while writing actually, he attached importance to the human pattern, In fact Liu Xie tried his best to study the human pattern heart and soul. When mind came into being, language was established. And Li Yan came from mind and language. Language must be polished, which is the necessity of Li Yan. Wen Xin Diao Long told us to put the mind, the language and the pattern together and integrate them into a whole. Jing was the manifest pattern, the immortal work, the masterpiece made by the mind of the Way and the world deputy to the pattern of the Way. Because Jing is immortal, literature becomes immortal too.Chapter 3 demonstrates the methods of Li Yan including "discussing rhymed and unrhymed writings " and " analysis of the ' Affections and Bright Coloration'".In "discussing rhymed and unrhymed writings ", Liu Xie talks about many kinds of literary forms and assesses famous writers. These are useful for writing and set a good example to Li Yan. " Analysis of the ' Affections and Bright Coloration '" including 24 essays elaborates on the methods of Li Yan. There are three parts in it: (1) the concrete methods and requirements of Li Yan; (2) the interior and external factors of Li Yan; (3) the criticism and appreciation of Li...
