In recent years, there have been a large number of non-fiction literary works at home and abroad, most of which are loved by the majority of readers. The translation report is about the translation of the second chapter excerpted from the book The Empire of Necessity-Slavery,Freedom,and Deception in the New World, which reveals the reality of slave trade in the 18th and 19th century. The report is guided in macro by the theory of Gideon Toury' norms. The translator first determines that the type of text is a non-fiction historical genre.According to the type of text, the translator decides that the Chinese version should be first of all faithful to the source text and the information function should be emphasized. However,in order to make the translation more easily accepted by the target language readers, adequacy and acceptability of initial norms proposed by Toury are balanced properly in the actual translation. In this translation practice, the translator encounters a lot of translation difficulties about vocabularies, sentences and language style of the source text. For proper nouns, adding annotation ensures the target readers to understand information well. For characteristics of long and difficult sentences, splitting, combination, and conversion strategies are used to make sure that the translations of sentences are fluent. For the style of text, maintaining syntactic structures and using Chinese expressions properly are discussed. Finally, translation experience and problems and deficiency are discussed.Translating outstanding foreign works is a big challenge. This translation practice not only promotes the spread of history and culture to help people understand the historical and cultural information, but also increases the reader's reading pleasure.
