The Study On The Characteristics Of Self-identity Of College Students And Its Relationship With Mental Health Condition

The study expatiates on and integrates both domestic and overseas self-identityconcept and theories,discusses the concept and standard of mental health,analysesthe structure of mental health,designs the mental health questionnaire,measures 402college students by the Self-identity Status Scale of College Student and MentalHealth Questionnaire(designed by the writer),employs variance analysis(ANOVA)and regression analysis to analyse the characteristics of self-identity of collegestudents and the relation between self-identity status and mental health,provides thestudy data for self-identity researches and mental health education,and enriches thedomestic theory on student self-identity and mental health。 The result shows: (1)there is significant difference between male and female incollege student status, male students are more possible to form identity achievementthan female students. (2)There is significant difference among grades in thedevelopment of college student self-identity. There is a gradually enhanced directionfrom lower self-identity statuses to advanced ones and from grade-one to grade-three,but there is also a direction that reentres into the identity crisis in grade-four. Itindicates that the identity achievement formation does not mean the end ofdevelopment of self-identity. This just proves that there is a continuous MAMAcycle in self-identity development.(3)There is significant correlation between collegestudent self-identity and mental health conditions. College students in the status ofidentity achievement are in the best mental health condition, while the diffusivestudents are by far worse, and the foreclosed and moratorium students are in middlecondition. (4)The self-identity statuses of the college students have certain predictionfor their mental health condition, and signs the improvement of mental healthconditions.
