The Book of Lord Shang is a works that reflects Shangyang's political views andthought experience, it not only has the highly abundant and profound political wisdom, butalso has the very high value of language material, and it has certain effect to the research onvocabulary development condition in last years of the Warring States Period. Research on Disyllabic and Polysyllabic Words of the Book of Lord Shang is a treatisethat researches disyllabic and polysyllabic Words of the Book of Lord Shang. The treatisefirst defines differentiating standard of disyllabic and polysyllabic words and Phrase of theBook of Lord Shang, and makes certain quantity of disyllabic and polysyllabic words of thebook by the differentiating standard, whereafter, describes, analyzes and discusses constituteforms and acceptation condition of disyllabic and polysyllabic words on the basis ofquantitative analysis, and compares them with correspondingly index in works of the sameand near ages, and then summarizes holistic characteristics of disyllabic and polysyllabicwords of the Book of Lord Shang. This paper tries to prove that disyllabic and polysyllabic words of the Book of LordShang have some unbalance with the constitute forms, it's the joint forms and one-sidedlyemphasize forms goes beyond the other forms in syntax constitute forms much. We can find,after the contrast with correspondingly index (quantity of disyllabic and polysyllabic words)of works of near times, quantity of disyllabic and polysyllabic words in all the contemporaryvocabulary of Chinese had occupied one third or so when disyllabic and polysyllabic words ofChinese developed from XianQin to last stage of the Warring States Period, quantityproportion of monosyllabic words and disyllabic and polysyllabic words in the Book of LordShang is more representative. At the same time, we can find that constitute forms ofdisyllabic and polysyllabic words are reaching perfect, but its inside structure still has somedistance with the Modern Chinese, and it is still in developing and perfecting. By thequantitative and qualitative analysis, sum and distribution circumstance of disyllabic andpolysyllabic words can be concluded, which has more important practical meaning to researchdeveloping trend of Chinese vocabulary.
