| This thesis selects "he" in the writings of Bai Juyi as the study object, trying to study it completely and systematically from the perspective of linguistics by means of combining synchronic description, diachronic comparison, statistic and analytic methods. We hope to enrich the study of Tang Dynasty poetry language, modern Chinese vocabulary and "he" culture further.Searching in whole-length of "Bai Juyi's writing", we know that there are 675 "he" in total. By studying the part-of-speech, "he" has many acceptations and it can be used as noun, verb, adjective, preposition and conjunction. In the writings of Bai Juyi, "he" has wondrously abundant cultural and historical meanings. It can be classified into 14 major categories and 54 subcategories in accordance with application related to nature, life, art, society etc.. By studying the grammar, we focus on the grammaticalization of "he" in the Tang Dynasty considering "he" in the writings of Bai Juyi and educe the conclusion that: as preposition and conjunction, "he" came from verb. The grammaticalization of "he" took place in the Middle-Tang Dynasty and took on the characters of transition from substantives to empty words. According to the writings of Bai Juyi, building words by means of grammar predominates in the vocabulary component modes of words and expressions with "he" and coordinative compound words are more than 50%. Moreover, we analyse the polysemous phenomenon and trope application of words and expressions with "he" in the writings of Bai Juyi, and discuss the evolvement of several words and expressions with "he", which are closely related to the society and lives of Tang Dynasty. Meanwhile, it points out some weakness of "the Great Chinese Dictionary" when selecting and tracing the source of words for supplying some valuable materials for the study of vocabulary in Chinese history and dictionary compilation. |
