The Research On The Polysyllable Words Of Liudujijing

Liudujijing is a Chinese Buddhist scripture tranlsated and edited by Kang Senghui.Kang Senhui is the monk who has high attainments in Buddhist compiling and translation in the period of the Three Kingdoms.A variety of the Jataka stories and Buddha Bunsen stories are included in this Buddhist scripture.It has great research value in mant aspects,such as philology,linguistics and philosophy.This paper study the Chinese Sutras edition Liudujijing as the research object of disyllabic words.And we make a comprehensive description as to discover some characteristics about word class and semantic meaning of the disyllabic words in Liudujijing,and explore some features of the development of disyllabic words in ancient and medieval Chinese language.The full text consists of six parts:Introfuction to introduce the topics of the origin and research object,and analyze its situation of study and the research way of thinking as well as the method of this paper.Chapter 1,provides an overview of the disyllabic and polysyllabic words in Liudujijing.On the base of the lexical study of the predecessors,we determine the judging standards of disyllabic or polysyllabic words.At the same time,we make explicit classification and analysis of the disyllabic or polysyllabic words in Liudujijing.In accordance with the different nature of the polysyllabic words in Liudujijing,we divide the polysyllabic words into general polysyllabic word,Buddhist polysyllabic word and proper noun.According to the social sources of the polysyllabic words,it can be divided into Chinese native words and loan words.Then Chinese native words can be divided into two parts according to their age of producing,archaisms and neologisms.And we divide the loan words into transliterated words,hybrid words and free translated words by the process of becoming a word.Chapter 2,the structure of the polysyllabic words in Liudujijing.We have a stationary description of polysyllable words in Liudujijing as objectively as possible.For example,its number,components,structure,semanteme and so on.As for all kinds of structures of the polysyllabic words in Liudujijing,we have complete counts by means of statistics.Chapter 3,analyses the characteristics of disyllablization of vocabularies in ancient and medieval Chinese language from Liudujijing.We compare and study the polysyllabic words in Liudujijing to other contemporarily materials,discuss the characteristics of the word-formation.Through comparing Liudujijing with other written materials in ancient Chinese language and modern Chinese language lastedly,we look forward to finding out the law for the development of vocabulary at that stage.Chapter 4,the relationship between the research of the polysyllabic words in Liudujijing and the compilation of dictionaries.We explain some polysyllabic words in Liudujijing which terms or senses are not collected in Chinese Dictionary,in order to indicate the value for the compilation of dictionaries.Finally,the epilogue makes a simple summary of the disyllabic and polysyllabic words in Liudujijing,from which,we can view the regularity of the development of Liudujijing and the influence of Buddhist words on Chinese lexicon’s development.
