A great concern about art majors' creation presented through a series of art exhibitions as well as an investigation of their current creation in several art colleges help me see the great achievements made in recent years. For example, lots of art students' works can be seen in all kinds of exhibitions. This is the endeavor of art educationalists and their students as well. Owing to the influence of all sorts, some problems occurred recently, such as the lack of originality, mono aesthetic standard, and emptiness of spiritual connotations in students' art creation. This thesis starts from these problems and comes up with the following insights: It argues that the effect of college education is reflected by students' creation. This education system has provided our country with a large number of excellent art talents and it has contributed a lot to the prosperity of Chinese culture. Undoubtedly, positive comments should be attached to the main trend of this teaching mode.On the other hand, problems cropping up in students' oil-painting creation at present indicate that this traditional mode of education, in a sense, seems to be out of place when it comes to cultivating students' artistic notions, to combining drawing practice with art creation, to accelerating students' accumulation of art theories and cultural elements etc. Besides, the influence art market cannot be ignored. Market economy brings dynamic factors to Chinese oil-painting and many art geniuses stand out. Meanwhile, the incompleteness of market economy as well as the irresponsible propaganda of some critics and mass media may result in the students' distraction from their studies. The upsetting studying environment and the inclination to money and fame make students ill at ease when they pursue their degrees. This thesis points out that improving students' abilities in creation needs the consistent cooperative efforts of art colleges and their students. It is a long and tough task to the realization of their goal. Nowadays, art colleges should not only teach their students how to draw pictures well but also tell them how to think. That is, art majors should learn how to develop this traditional art on a cultural level. Art colleges as the representatives of eternal serious culture and of advanced art should embody the superlative level of national culture. Also, they should be the advocators of noble values and cultural tastes as well as the cultivators of academic ideas and exploring spirits. To be exact, art colleges should be cradles of art talents, or rather, the birthplaces of creative art intellectuals. As far as teachers in art departments are concerned, their work is to instruct and influence their students. The two roles that they play in our society are educationalists and artists. Students' value and spiritual tendency in oil-painting, their mode of thinking, their choices of painting styles, and even their principle of being an individual are all influenced by their teachers. Accordingly, teachers should insist on enriching and improving themselves. A good instructor should not only have a good command of knowledge in his own field but also be a reading fan. Only a teacher who loves books can bring up book-loving followers. Hence, comes the atmosphere of book loving and active thinking. Only in this way can cultural ideas and spiritual connotations be put into students' creation. Meantime, art majors should keep in mind theimportance of drawing skills and drawing artistry ensures the achievement of their aims. Artistry is not a goal but an approach to their goal. In a sense, how far an art student can go on this trail is determined by his cultural accumulation. As the famous British aesthete Ernst H. Gombrich put it, "only those artists who seldom show their faces in the public, hardly follow the fashion, seek no fame, and who stick to their beliefs in creation are the hopes of the future."As a result, art majors should remove all kinds of disruptions, and make the best use of the opportunity in art colleges to develop themselves in art creatio...
