Product is the information carrier, from the point of view of information theory, so product design is the behavior of integrating information and creating information. Information is the most important part in the relationship of the product and consumer. Information communication is the core in product design. In the process of product design, the critical one of so many factors, which is connected with the design information expression, is the information itself, In this article, the information in product design is a kind of multi-layer complex information-syntheses, and it can be divided into technology information, semantic information, and aesthetic information.The first, technology information is the material or formal layer of the product, such as the appearance, structure, utilize-function of the product, etc. It is transmitted to consumer through the man-machine conversation interface. The second, semantic information is the indicative value of psychology, sociality, culture that is represented as product is in its' using-surroundings. It is transmitted to consumer through the shape. The third, aesthetic information is the aesthetic feeling that the product transmits to the consumer. It contains the outside appearance of the product and the individual view on aesthetic displayed when the designer expresses the basic information of the product, which is the designer's aesthetic view, aesthetic sentiment, and style. It is transmitted to consumer through the whole product.In contemporary product design, the three information layers in the communication process are spliced from low to high. To the designer, the information resource creator, the perfect and effective design information should be unified as an organic whole. Through the analyzing on the three information factors, this article summarizes some requirements and techniques for information expression in product design.The information expression on product design is a process that is developing and abundant gradually. There are different emphasis points in different eras for the information transmitted in the product design. We can know it from modernistic design pay attention to technology information, post- modernistic design pay attention to semantic information and contemporary design pay increasing attention to aesthetic information. It is caused by people's demand change in term of on essence. The information that products should transmit rest with people's material and spiritual demand after all. We should pay attention to people's demand of spiritand emotional especially.Prospecting the product design of the future, the non-materialization and the function superization on the form make the design disengaged from the material, and approaching the pure information communication. Product design will be pay more and more attention on information expression and application.
